º£½ÇÂÒÂ× Director of Music, Graham Ross, is announced as the Scott Polar Research Institute Musician in Residence for 2025
Graham will travel to the Antarctic with the Royal Navy on board HMS Protector for a 4-week residency in January of next year.
On receiving the news, Graham was thrilled to have been appointed. “The Residency will give me an unparalleled opportunity to compose inspired by the remarkable yet fragile environment of this region. My focus will include the creation of a major new concert work about Antarctica which the BBC Singers will première in 2025. As a conductor and composer I enjoy a great variety of projects and have written for many genres of classical music from solo performer to full orchestra. The dedicated creative period of the Residency will allow me to write a large-scale work for voices and instruments, something I have long wished to do.â€
Passionate about travel, Graham is looking forward to experiencing this remote and delicate region. “Immersed in the astonishing sounds and landscapes of Antarctica, I hope my new works will celebrate the continent’s natural beauty whilst highlighting the ever-increasing need to preserve it.â€
